The Label Checklist: What Every Product Needs to Stay Compliant & Professional

Whether you're selling wax melts, candles, skincare, or food, your product label isn't just about looks—it’s about legality, trust, and professionalism. At Sticky Print, we know firsthand how a well-designed label can boost a brand’s credibility. But it also needs to meet certain standards.
Use this checklist to make sure your labels tick all the right boxes—visually and legally.
1. Your Business Name or Brand
Use your full business name as registered. If you’re a sole trader, this can be your trading name.
2. Product Name or Description
Clearly state what the customer is buying. For example, “Soy Wax Melt – Lavender & Chamomile.”
3. Net Weight or Volume
This is often a legal requirement and builds customer trust. For example, “Net Wt. 50g” or “Burn time: Approx. 40 hours.”
4. Safety or Warning Info (CLP for Wax Melts & Candles)
- CLP labels are legally required if your product contains hazardous substances. They must include pictograms, signal words, and contact information.
5. Ingredients (If Required)
For cosmetics, full INCI ingredient lists are required. For candles/wax melts, it's typically only needed under CLP guidelines.
6. Contact Information
Include a way for customers to contact you—such as a business address, website, or email.
7. Batch Number
This helps trace products in case of quality issues. It can be discreetly placed on the back or bottom of the label.
8. Country of Origin
Optional but useful. For example, “Hand-poured in the UK.”
9. Expiry Date or Shelf Life (If Applicable)
Important for skincare or perishables. Example: “Use within 12 months of opening.”
10. Branding Elements
Don't forget visual consistency—logo, font, colours, and spacing should be intentional and aligned with your brand.
